As part of the #LightUpUkraine campaign, 62 of the world’s most popular locations will turn off their lights. In this way, 19 countries will express their solidarity with Ukraine.
Visitors will also be invited to participate in fundraising through the UNITED24 fundraising platform for generators for Ukrainian hospitals. They plan to receive 10 million dollars.
The action will take place on December 21 at 20:00.

in the European Parliament and the building of EU institutions in Brussels;
in the building of the Parliament of Scotland in Edinburgh;
in the mayor’s office of Paris and Porto;
on the main Christmas trees of New York;
near Rockefeller Center
in London on Trafalgar Square;
on the famous Toronto TV Tower.
And also in Prague, Riga, Sofia, Wroclaw, Turku, Vilnius, etc.
The organizers note that New York’s Carnegie Hall was the first to join the action. The lights were turned off there on December 4, 2022, during a concert in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian Christmas tune “Shchedryk”.
“When the light goes out, it’s always perceived as something unusual. But when you spend four, ten, twenty hours or even days without it and start to get used to the darkness, that’s the worst thing that can happen.
This means that light is not the only thing they want to take away from you. It is an encroachment on every part of your life. This is how we live in Ukraine now – defending ourselves from the enemy who came to destroy us,” said President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
