LAUREN MAHON is a regular on the hugely popular You, Me and the Big C podcast with Sun columnist Deborah James.
Who is Lauren Mahon?
British activist Lauren Mahon – born in 1985 – rose to prominence when she created Girl vs Cancer.
Girl vs Cancer is an online community raising awareness and supporting patients about cancer.
For her work, she was named one of the 100 Inspiring Women by the BBC in 2019.
Lauren was a social media manager when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016.
After her diagnosis, she became an activist and began working with Deborah James and the late Rachael Bland on the You, Me and the Big C podcast.
She captivated audiences during her appearance on Channel 4 show First Dates Hotel in 2018 when she was in the friend zone.
Poor Lauren broke down in tears in the private chat after the date, saying she’s “always the friggin’ friend.”
When did she form You, Me and the Big C with Deborah James and Rachael Bland?
The trio launched their BBC podcast in March 2018 to critical acclaim.
The podcast focuses on the journey of cancer and survivors but with a lighthearted and uplifting tone.
The show was originally co-hosted by Lauren, Deborah and Rachael Bland, but Rachael sadly passed away in September 2018.
Since then, Rachael’s husband Steve Bland has occasionally hosted the show.
The podcast aired its final episode with Deborah after she announced she had transitioned into end-of-life care because of her end-stage colon cancer.
Entitled “Deborah James’ Last Dance,” Deborah brought producer Mike Holt to tears when she discussed reuniting and celebrating with her late friend Rachael.
What did Lauren say about Deborah James?
Lauren has spoken about how proud she is of Deborah and how she can’t think of anyone more deserving of a woman’s position.
She tearfully told the Daily Mail: “Of course Deb is a lady – it’s like she was born.
“It’s a great testament to all that she has achieved and what she means to everyone. I couldn’t be prouder of her.”
Deborah’s Bowelbabe fund has raised over £6million in just one week.
Praising her co-host, Lauren said, “Her work has already saved so many lives, but she will save and extend so many more because of this money.”
She said that Deborah’s carefree nature is something she will carry with her forever.
“We went through something so powerful together,” she said.
“What we have created with the podcast has changed the way cancer is talked about and experienced in the UK.
I’m a hair doctor and hair loss is caused by the way it’s styled – like the bun
I’m renovating my house and there are three money-saving tips everyone should know
“What I’m really struggling with is that Rachael, Deb and I started this together as a threesome and the prospect of not having either of them around is difficult.
“I can’t get my head around it.”
