At the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, doctors performed a complex operation on a three-day-old baby.
His organs were misplaced, so medics separated them with a net to save lives, Okhmatdyt reported.
Doctors diagnosed the newborn boy with one of the most difficult developmental defects – left diaphragmatic hernia and completely underdeveloped left lung.
“Stomach, intestines, spleen, left lobe of the liver developed in the left half of the chest, which did not allow the left lung to grow. That is, the child has hypoplasia of the left lung. And the heart was in the right chest.
During the operation, we were able to move the abdominal organs from the chest to where they should naturally be and separate them with a net. The heart began to gradually move to its usual place, “- commented the head of the Surgery Clinic Oleg Leniv.

Parents knew about this defect before giving birth.
After birth, the child was examined and found that surgery was required. The operation lasted 3 hours.

The child is currently receiving treatment in the Department of Anesthesiology and Neonatal Intensive Care.
Doctors note that such pathology is quite rare. Because the baby did not have half the diaphragm – such a defect is the greatest risk to the child’s life.
