The committees of the Federation Council on Tuesday, May 24, during an extended meeting, supported the candidacy of Alexander Kurenkov for the post of head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.
The meeting was attended by the committees of the upper house of the Russian parliament on defense and security, on constitutional legislation and on regional policy.
The Federation Council itself will consider his candidacy during the plenary session on May 25.
The day before, Andrei Klishas, head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, said that the upper house of the Russian parliament received a proposal from the President of the Russian Federation on the candidacy of a new head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Later, information appeared that Russian leader Vladimir Putin offered the current assistant director of the Russian Guard, Kurenkov, for this position.
The post of interim head of the department has been occupied by Alexander Chupriyan since September 10, 2021.
Chupriyan replaced Yevgeny Zinichev at his post.
Zinichev died under tragic circumstances during an exercise in the Krasnoyarsk Territory on September 8. The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations tried to save the film director Alexander Melnik, who also died as a result of the incident.
