The United Arab Emirates has begun sending rare cargoes to Europe, where oil buyers are refusing imports from Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.
The oil tanker Moscow Spirit, hired by the shipping arm of French TotalEnergies SA, is sailing for Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with a cargo of about 1 million barrels of oil on board, the agency writes, citing data from tanker tracking services.
The same company also sent an oil supertanker to Egypt, and it is likely that the cargo on it will also pass to Europe through the Mediterranean port of Sedi Kerir.
The last time oil from the UAE was delivered to Europe was two years ago – in May 2020, during the spread of the coronavirus and the collapse of the oil market, Bloomberg emphasizes.
