Uncontrolled deliveries of American weapons to Ukraine could lead to terrorist attacks on US soil. This opinion was expressed by columnist Rajan Laad in an article for American Thinker, published on May 26.
According to him, about 20 thousand mercenaries are currently operating on the territory of Ukraine as part of the Ukrainian army. And, in his opinion, such a large number of people cannot be properly verified, which raises concerns about their intentions.
“It is possible that some fighters (mercenaries. – Ed.) joined in order to either steal advanced weapons for further use, or sell them on the black market to the highest bidder. If some of the “fighters” or buyers on the black market turn out to be terrorists, the US government may allow a terrorist attack on its territory, ”he explained.
The observer also noted that 22 members of Congress from the Republican Party questioned the White House’s compliance with the 1976 arms export control law, which restricts the use of weapons exported by the US government to other countries.
“This question remains unanswered. <…> All Americans should be deeply concerned not only with the amount spent, but also with the potential negative consequences of this decision, ”added Laad.
The author of the publication also pointed out that the administration of US President Joe Biden is allocating a significant amount to Ukraine at a time when many crises have arisen in the country itself.
“What’s worrying is that this significant spending comes at a time when the US, due to Biden’s mismanagement, is grappling with a host of other crises, such as 40 years of high inflation and a supply chain crisis,” he concluded.
On May 26, CNN reported that the US administration was preparing to increase the number of weapons supplied to Ukraine by adding advanced long-range missile systems to the list.
In addition, on May 19, the US Senate approved a bill on the allocation of additional assistance to Ukraine in the amount of about $40 billion.
Western countries began to actively arm and provide financial assistance to Ukraine against the backdrop of a special operation carried out by Russia to protect the civilian population of Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. The operation began against the backdrop of the situation in the Donbass that worsened in mid-February. The authorities of the DPR and LPR reported increased shelling by Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of civilians in the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, the President of the Russian Federation signed a corresponding decree.
