Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League by beating English Liverpool 1-0 at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis (France).
The goal in the 59th minute was scored by the striker of the Spanish club Vinicius Junior.
At the same time, the goal of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema in the 43rd minute was not counted due to offside. However, this did not prevent him from becoming the top scorer of the tournament.
The Madrid club won the Champions League for a record 14th time. The club last won the trophy in 2018, also beating Liverpool 3-1 in the final.
The organizers delayed the start of the final match for 37 minutes due to unrest. According to media reports, some fans clashed with security while trying to enter the stadium.
People climbed over the fences, ignoring the attempts of the stewards to bring the situation under control. As a result, the police fired tear gas.
The final of the football Champions League was moved from St. Petersburg to Paris against the backdrop of Russia’s ongoing special operation to protect the Donbass and the subsequent aggravation of the situation in Ukraine. The corresponding decision was made by the UEFA Executive Committee on February 25 at an extraordinary meeting.
