The new study has been published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
During the study, scientists analyzed the diets of more than 50,000 women who had already entered menopause. The diets were then compared with their sleep quality reviews. As it turned out, insomnia can be caused by foods that contain a large amount of refined carbohydrates:
sugar;
White bread;
White rice;
soda.
These foods increase blood sugar levels, and therefore stimulate the production of insulin. Even insulin can trigger the release of adrenaline and cortisol, hormones that disrupt sleep.
