Apple unveiled iOS 16 at the WWDC 2022 Developers Conference yesterday, and there were some innovations that we weren’t told. One of them was Face ID support in “all iPhone models” landscape orientation.
It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. However, some older iPhone models, such as the iPhone X, may limit this feature (it will be known more closely to launch iOS 16).
XDA of the day
Face ID was announced in 2017 with the first iPhone X. The iPhone X removes the traditional iPhone design by removing its iconic home button in favor of more screen real estate. Face ID is quite complex, and many have tried to replicate it, but most have failed. Despite being a relatively complex system, the feature works like magic when moving or in the dark. But one thing has plagued Face ID for years – the inability to unlock it in landscape orientation.
This functionality is not entirely new, since Apple’s own iPad Pro returned this capability in 2018. The Face ID module on the iPad Pro is different from the iPhone. Now, four years later, the feature to unlock your iPhone horizontally with Face ID will come with the official release of iOS 16. There is a caveat, however, as the website says it is only available on supported iPhone models. Unfortunately, it doesn’t actually mention any models, but hopefully we’ll find out more soon since the beta is live now.
Importantly, Landscape Orientation Mode will work in all cases where Face ID is used, including logging in to sites and confirming purchases. It should be noted that landscape orientation has long been supported by Face ID, but this innovation was first introduced for the iPhone.
