Apple has engaged LG Display to develop and manufacture Micro-LED displays for new Apple Watch models. This is reported by GizmoChina, citing insider Ross Yang.
According to Yang, LG Display will start production of new generation matrices in the second half of next year. So, the watch with improved screens will most likely appear in the same year of 2024.
Young also wrote that the Micro-LEDs will have better color, contrast and brightness than the Retina LTPO OLED screens used in current Apple Watch models. GizmoChina believes that Micro-LED will at least provide better readability of information on the open-air screen.
According to journalists, the main question remains which Apple Watch model will get the Micro-LED screen first. Most likely, according to GizmoChina, it will be the Apple Watch Ultra, since they are more expensive and designed for frequent outdoor use.
