In California, a man pleaded guilty to planning to bomb the Democratic Party headquarters in Sacramento after Donald Trump’s defeat in the 2020 US presidential election. On Saturday, May 28, reports the Daily Mail.
It is noted that 46-year-old Benjamin Rogers confessed on Friday, May 27, and now he can be sentenced to imprisonment for seven to nine years.
As Rogers’ lawyer stated, the man “has taken responsibility and he wants to pay his debt to society and resume a productive life, be a good father, a good husband and a good family man.”
Rogers remains in custody pending sentencing on September 30.
Prosecutors charged 38-year-old Jarrod Copeland with conspiracy to attack “Democrat-related targets,” the newspaper recalls. The man had previously confessed.
Benjamin Rogers was detained five days before Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, 2021. The US Department of Justice then reported that 49 firearms were found in his possession, including a copy of a machine gun used by German troops during World War II, thousands of rounds of ammunition and five homemade bombs.
The second conspirator, 37-year-old Jarrod Copeland, was detained later in July in Sacramento. It was proven that the man was in correspondence with Rogers. So, Copeland agreed to the message of his partner that he wants to “blow up the building of the Democrats.”
The 2020 US presidential election took place on November 3, 2020. They elected the 46th leader of the Democratic candidate, former Vice President Joe Biden.
On January 6, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in protest of the election results. Five people became victims of the riots, including US Air Force veteran Ashley Babbitt from the side of the demonstrators and a policeman.
As of July 7, 535 Americans have been charged with storming the Capitol. Ten participants in the attack on the Congress building pleaded guilty. Meanwhile, the identity of another 300 rioters at that time was not established.
