Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko resumed her performances after a break and gave a solo concert on the stage of the La Scala theater in Italy. On Friday, May 27, reports the publication ANSA.
“Netrebko opened today’s concert with a sold-out aria Lo son l’umile ancella <…> The rich program included many works, including “Morning” and “Night” by Richard Strauss, excerpts from the operas “Pagliacci” by Ruggiero Leoncavallo and ” The Queen of Spades” by Tchaikovsky. At the end, the performers were called for an encore several times, ”the publication says.
On April 28, it became known that the Metropolitan Opera invited the Ukrainian singer Lyudmila Monastyrskaya to replace one of the opera’s biggest stars, the Russian artist Anna Netrebko, in the production of Turandot.
At the same time, on March 30, Netrebko assured that she would return to performances at the end of May, first in Europe. At the same time, she disowned the support of Moscow and noted that she lives in Austria and is a tax resident of this country.
The next day, the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater canceled Anna’s performance because of her position on the situation in Ukraine. As noted in the theater, living in Europe and the opportunity to perform at European venues for Netrebko turned out to be more important than the Motherland.
Earlier, on March 5, producer Netrebko Maxim Berin said that the artist had decided to suspend her creative activity in the near future. According to the producer, this is due to the pressure of the international cultural community.
Shortly before this, on March 1, Netrebko canceled a planned concert in Hamburg. The German edition of Spiegel quoted the singer’s comment on this subject: “Now is not the right time for me to perform and play music.”
After the start of the Russian special operation to protect Donbass, the New York Metropolitan Opera and the Bavarian State Opera severed relations with opera singer Anna Netrebko, because she did not comply with the demand to refuse public support for Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Also, Center Stage Artist Management refused to cooperate with the artist. To date, Anna Netrebko is not among the performers of this company, which belongs to the large international holding Universal Music.
