Apple has warned millions of iPhone owners to install urgent updates now

APPLE has warned iPhone owners to update their handsets after uncovering more than 25 security issues in iOS.

The technology giant has pushed its latest version, iOS 15.5, to protect people from possible cyber attacks.

Many bugs can allow an application to run “arbitrary code”, a tactic hackers use to carry out stupid things on a victim’s phone.

Most vulnerabilities are preyed upon by external experts and anonymous researchers.

The reason Apple regularly lists so many is that they are kept tightly secret until a solution is found, so that cyber crooks do not take advantage of them.

“For the protection of our customers, Apple does not disclose, discuss or confirm security issues until an investigation and patch or release is available,” Apple said.

But the latest iOS update was not about security issues.

The firm has also made some notable changes to the surface – albeit very small.

This includes new request and send buttons that have been added to Apple Wallet.

It is designed to allow users to quickly request or transfer money via messages using Apple Cash Card.

Elsewhere, podcast lovers can limit the number of episodes stored on their iPhone by automatically deleting the old ones.

And anyone with a homepod will see that Wi-Fi signal bars are now present in the speaker’s dedicated app so you can see if the two are connected.

The update should roll-out automatically to iPhone owners, but you can go to Settings and force it to download and install immediately, then About, then Software Update.
