Prime Minister of the Central African Republic (CAR) Felix Molua called on Russia to invest in bitcoin projects. The corresponding statement was made by the politician on June 17.
“This is a good opportunity for investment [by Russia], those who are interested in this can invest in our bitcoin. The Central African Republic does not prevent this,” Molua said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The politician explained that the country will continue to use the BEAC CFA franc (the currency used by members of the Economic Community of Central African Countries, which includes the Central African Republic. – Ed.), but will also develop cryptocurrencies.
“They tried to strangle the Central African Republic financially, no one listened to us, did not allocate financial assistance, even blocked funds so that they allegedly would not go to pay for Russian instructors. We did not say that we would leave the zone of use of the franc, but if there is an opportunity to develop thanks to the cryptocurrency, we will do it,” Molua emphasized.
Thus, Molua commented on the decision of the authorities of the republic to make Bitcoin legal tender and open a cryptocurrency “investment hub” in the country.
Russia continues to develop cooperation with the CAR. On January 10, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Alexander Bikantov as the new Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Central African Republic (CAR).
