Chizhov called premature the decision to put an end to the SP-2

It is premature to put an end to the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. This was announced on Friday, June 17, by Russia’s Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov.

“I think that it would be too early to put a final end to the Nord Stream 2 project,” he commented to RIA Novosti about the reduction in gas pumping through the Nord Stream gas pipeline.

Earlier, on June 16, the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, at the session “The World Oil and Gas Market Today and Tomorrow” of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is technically ready for transporting gas to Europe.

Miller also said that a huge thank you for high gas prices should be said to European regulators. He noted: “Gazprom” has repeatedly warned Europe that gas is not a commodity.

On June 16, it became known that Canada and Germany are negotiating equipment for the Nord Stream gas pipeline, during which the countries are trying to find a solution to the problem. Gazprom has decided to cut fuel supplies to Europe via Nord Stream due to the fact that Siemens cannot return gas pumping units after repairs in Canada due to anti-Russian sanctions.

On June 15, Bloomberg, citing a representative of Siemens Energy, reported that the German concern Siemens would not be able to return the turbine for the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline to Gazprom after repairs in Canada due to sanctions imposed by the West against Russia. He also said that the second turbine, subject to regular maintenance, cannot currently be sent abroad.

On May 11, the German Ministry of Economy announced the “death” of Nord Stream 2 due to the start of a special operation to protect the residents of Donbass. So the head of the department, Annike Eichhorn, commented on the possibility of activating the pipeline, built in September 2021.
