Background programs: how to set up a Xiaomi smartphone so that it slows down less

Xiaomi smartphones have had a setting for a long time that distinguishes MIUI from other “Android skins”.
If you go to the main settings of the smartphone, go to the Battery item and click on the settings, you will see the Activity control section with a brief explanation of how it works.

After entering the menu, turn on the display of system applications and see that there are much fewer applications in the list than there are on your smartphone, why?

The fact is that MIUI does not have the ability to influence Android applications and services, moreover, due to the incorrect setting of “Activity Control”, the phone can discharge faster and work slower than usual, because services limited by MIUI will start again.

In activity control, there are four settings for each program, two of which limit the allocated resource (processor, memory, and so on) in favor of the program without restrictions.

To make it clear to you how to set up your smartphone (after all, we have a different list of programs), we will show the algorithm of actions using the example of our Redmi, and for this we will divide all applications into four categories:

Messengers, email clients and navigators
System Services
Programs with Internet access
Programs that do not require connection
We note right away that for any mobile games, regardless of whether you launch them through the game mode or not, you should always set the settings to “No restrictions”.

Let’s go directly to the settings. For all the apps in the first category, we chose “Smart mode” or “No limits” (helps if there is a delay in messages), since MIUI should not limit their background activity.

For system programs (MIUI and Google), the setup is a bit more complicated. For example, if you limit the operation of the Weather program, then until the moment you open the entire screen, MIUI may prohibit it from updating data, which means that you need to configure system services according to the following principle:

If the program is never used in parallel with others, select “Soft limitation”
If it can work without being on the screen – “Smart mode”
For programs without Internet access (except for File Explorer), we always select the last setting option so that the system does not waste the smartphone’s resource to support their background activity.

As a result, priorities are set, helping the smartphone understand which applications you need, which in turn increases the speed of their work and reduces battery drain.
