Bloomberg reported on a riot of workers at one of Apple’s factories in China

Workers organized a riot at one of the factories of Quanta Computer, an Apple contractor in China. On Friday, May 27, according to Bloomberg, citing sources.

It is noted that in May there have already been two such incidents. The reason for the unrest was tough measures to combat a new wave of COVID-19 in China. In particular, Quanta employees were prohibited from leaving the plant. Also, against the background of isolation, internal conflicts escalated.

“According to several employees, at the beginning of the month, rioters, worried about the depletion of supplies, broke into protected areas in search of emergency supplies <…> Words also spread of hours of confrontation in the dormitory of Taiwanese Quanta specialists,” the publication says.

As one witness noted, people are exhausted by restrictions and constant control, and the lack of specific prospects only exacerbates the situation.

Shanghai has been in the biggest lockdown since March 28 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In the city, all organizations and shops were closed, with the exception of vital ones. Public transport is temporarily closed, the movement of cars is allowed only with special passes.

Anti-COVID restrictions in China have become the most stringent in the world: entire areas are completely closed, production is stopped, food delivery is even limited in some cities.

Earlier in the day, it became known that the Toyota Motor concern will suspend part of the production lines at eight Japanese factories due to interruptions in the supply of components, including chips, from China, where quarantine was introduced after the outbreak of the coronavirus.

From May 16 to May 21, production will be suspended in Motomachi, Takaoka, Iwate and other cities and prefectures in turn. These lines produce GR Yaris, Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Touring, Harrier, RAV4, Prius, Land Cruiser Prado and other models.

The production plan for May due to downtime will be reduced from 750 thousand units of vehicles to 700 thousand.

At the end of April, the authorities of the Chinese capital Beijing decided to close all schools due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation due to the increase in the incidence of COVID-19.

On April 3, a new sub-variant of Omicron, a strain of coronavirus, was discovered in Suzhou, east China. It was designated as BA.1.1.

An outbreak of COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, occurred in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, then the virus began to spread to other countries. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) described the spread of coronavirus in the world as a pandemic.
