The Central Hearings Committee has given a one-game ban to Clare Hurler Ian Galvin, who will now miss Sunday’s Munster SHC clash with All-Ireland champions Limerick in Ennis.
Alvin denied his red card against Cork last Sunday week, in a case that was originally due to be heard last Monday night only to be delayed by three days amid controversial circumstances.
The GAA Administrative Committee is now investigating allegations that members of the CHC were previously contacted by an individual to influence the case. The individual concerned is not a member of the Clare Management Committee or the senior management team or affiliated with Galvin.
Meanwhile, the Clare striker pushed ahead with a CHC hearing tonight to have his ban overturned. The Clonlara clubman was red carded by referee Paud O’Dwyer after an altercation with Cork defender Seán O’Donoghue when Banner grabbed two wins on the rotation and they were well placed to qualify for the All-Ireland to qualify series.
The Management Committee will review the alleged communications with CHC members to determine whether rule 7.3 has been breached, for which a minimum of two months’ suspension will be imposed. The rule in question states that no member of the federation may communicate with a member of the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) or the CHC to influence the outcome of a hearing.
