Google got rid of “Go” in the Gallery Go app – a simplified version of Google Photos

Last month, it became known about Google’s intention to stop developing the YouTube Go application, since during its existence the need for a lightweight version of the product simply disappeared. It turned out that not only the video service is waiting for changes. The new version of Gallery Go, a lighter version of Google Photos, has dropped the “Go” from its name.

The first version of Android Go was released in 2017 and was optimized for low-end, low-performance devices. Later, Google launched light versions of many popular services, including YouTube, the Google Assistant voice assistant, the Google Maps mapping service, the Gmail email service, and others.

The first version of Gallery Go, which became a simplified version of the service for storing, editing and sharing photo and video content, appeared in 2019. Less than 10 MB in size, the application automatically organizes your photo and video library by sorting content into different categories. Now it has become known that the developers have abandoned the “Go” in the name, but this does not mean that the company will close the light version of the product.

According to reports, the name Gallery appeared in the application version 1.8.8.436428459. Google hasn’t announced any changes to this product, so it’s hard to say right now what the future holds for a lite version of Google Photos. It is possible that the application will repeat the fate of the Files Go product, which was renamed Files by Google in 2018.
