Details: In the morning, an Iranian Navy helicopter reportedly landed on the Greek-flagged Delta Poseidon ship, which was in international waters in the Persian Gulf (22 nautical miles from the coast of Iran). The armed men then seized the ship’s crew, including two Greek citizens.

A similar incident occurred on another Greek-flagged ship with seven Greek citizens on board off the Iranian coast.

Secretary General Themistoklis Demiris reportedly strongly condemned these actions, which are contrary to basic norms of international law and international shipping, and called for the immediate release of the ships and their crews.

Themistocles Demiris said that these actions will have a particularly negative impact, in particular, on relations between the EU and Iran.

In light of these developments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Greek citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran.

What came before: The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Navy detained two Greek tankers for violations in the waters of the Persian Gulf. For what violations the ships were detained, it was not reported.
