I did a Renault Scenic drive that was revived as a great EV kit

At the moment there is a widespread tendency to bring back the name of the car which brings back good memories.

I give you Manta, Puma, Bronco, Supra and even Renault 5.

But this one was a strange choice.

The real Renault Scenic of the late 90’s was the hearing aid of the car world. Essential, but you don’t want to see it.

I can say that because I had one. I actually had two.

I had an Espace. I have a team of five with the same surname so a Renault MPV was the obvious choice.

I must admit that the last-gen Scenic was much more pleasing to the eye, but Renault stopped selling here three years ago.

Now it has been revived as a great EV kit.

Ignore the mock dash with TEN screen, facial recognition camera and PlayStation steering wheel – it’s just the idea car tinsel – but the car itself is closer to reality in 2024. We like

Scenic will use the same interior as the £ 35,000 All-Electric Megan, which arrives in September. This means a choice of two electric motors and two battery sizes, the largest of which offers 292 miles at 60kWh. It will be quite a poke.

Electric cars have instant power – no turbo lag, no downshift waiting.

The Megan EV prototype we tested had 220 hp and accelerated from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.4 seconds. Scene is a bit bigger than Megan, which means it costs more, but those glasses will be almost the same.

Like Megan, 95 percent of the Scenic can be recycled towards the end of its life, with 100 percent of the upholstery being made from recycled materials. The on-board computer is Google. The ultra-thin battery sits low on the floor, making the cab spacious and family-friendly.

Renault is also experimenting with a hydrogen fuel cell that goes further, fills up as fast as a petrol engine and emits only water.

Whether you like cars or hate them, you can’t beat Renault for its ambition to build affordable electric cars.

We all know that cost is the biggest barrier to buying an electric car.

Ford is an affordable brand, isn’t it? However, its cheapest battery-powered car starts with the High Four.

The golf-sized Volkswagen ID3 starts at 35,000.

Renault is currently selling you the Zoe for £ 30,000 and promises to “reduce car costs by 33 percent” compared to its next-generation platform Zoe for smaller electric cars. That means the remastered Renault 5 will cost 20,000 when it hits the road in 2024.

We will hold them.

Renault has halved battery consumption over the past decade and plans to halve it again in the coming years.

Perhaps Renault 4 – another old name being revived – will be cheaper.
