IS leader arrested in Istanbul

In Istanbul, as a result of a large-scale counter-terrorist operation on Thursday, May 26, the head of the Islamic State group (IS, banned in the Russian Federation), Abu al-Hasan al-Kureishi, was detained. This was reported on the Odatv portal, but other Turkish media have not yet confirmed this information.

“The Istanbul Police carried out an international operation. <…> During the operation, carried out in the strictest secrecy, important information about the organization was obtained, ”the publication says.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will reveal the details of the international operation in the next few days. The portal stated that the house in which the IS leader was located was being monitored, and the head of the Istanbul police, Zafer Aktas, was personally involved in the capture.

On April 29, the FSB reported the arrest in the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia of a suspect in the preparation of a terrorist attack at an object of authorities and law enforcement. According to authorities, the man was a supporter of IS. He was arrested for two months.
