Moldova lifted the ban on the export of flour and wheat

The Moldovan authorities lifted the ban on the export of wheat and wheat flour from the republic. The corresponding statement was published on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers on Saturday, June 25.

“The Commission for Emergency Situations decided: to cancel paragraph 8 of the Decree No. 9 of March 10 (export of wheat or wheat-rye flour from the Republic of Moldova is prohibited); in paragraph 14 of Decree No. 2 of February 25, cancel the note under the letter “a” (prohibition of the export of wheat),” the message says.

The decision comes into force from the moment of publication. It is noted that as long as the state of emergency remains in the country, the emergency situations commission under the leadership of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa has the right to make changes without the approval of parliament.

The parliament of the republic introduced a state of emergency in the republic on January 20. The corresponding recommendation was sent to the Government by the Commission for Emergency Situations.

In addition, at the end of February, Moldova, as part of the fight against food shortages, introduced a ban on the export of wheat, sugar and corn. In addition, the list of socially significant goods, the sale of which is subject to a limited trade markup, has been expanded. It included: pork, poultry, frozen fish, pasta, eggs, potatoes, onions, white cabbage, carrots and beets.

On the eve it became known that the status of a candidate for entry into the European Union (EU) obliges Moldova to support new anti-Russian sanctions.

At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of the Republic Nikolai Popescu said on June 22 that the state of the Moldovan economy does not allow to fully support the sanctions against Russia. He expressed hope that after Moldova receives candidate status, the EU will invest much more in the country’s infrastructure.

Earlier, on March 20, it was reported that against the backdrop of Moscow’s special operation to protect Donbass, trade relations between Ukraine and Moldova were shaken. Before the escalation, the export of Moldovan goods to Asian countries was carried out through Ukrainian territory.
