Morawiecki urges Germany to close Nord Stream 1 by the end of the year

Germany must close the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline by the end of the year. Work should begin on the seventh package of sanctions against Russia for armed aggression against Ukraine.

Head of the Polish government Mateusz Morawiecki stated this in an interview with TVP Info, Ukrinform reports citing Money.pl.

“I call from Davos to stop the operation of Nord Stream 1 by the end of the year. We need to close this gas pipeline, through which a stream of money flows in the other direction, to Russia,” Morawiecki said.

He stressed that the West still does little to help Ukraine. Consequently, all his talk in Davos will focus on helping Ukraine, as not everyone is yet aware of “how key the events beyond Poland’s eastern border are.”

According to him, some would like to return to relations with the Russian Federation, which were before the start of the war against Ukraine on February 24 this year.

“It’s impossible. You can’t return to the state (of relations – ed.) that were before the war. Peace can be restored, but only when Russian soldiers leave Ukraine as soon as possible and when Ukraine begins to recover,” Morawiecki stressed.

The head of the Polish government noted that the sanctions imposed against Russia have already begun to operate. However, unfortunately, the revenues of the Russian Federation have increased due to the rise in oil and gas prices.

According to Morawiecki, the EU must be “resolute and systematic” in matters of sanctions.

He noted that in a conversation with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, he called for “starting work on the seventh package of sanctions.”

As Ukrinform reported, Davos is hosting the World Economic Forum (WEF) from May 22 to May 26, which is an annual meeting place for the world political and business elite.

Since February 24, the large-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine has continued.
