How events are developing in the LDNR, in Ukraine and in the world against its background – in the text broadcast of Izvestia

On May 23, an officer of the Vostok battalion, Fidel, with the call sign Arab, revealed the Izvestia military commander, Valentin Trushin, the main reason why Ukrainian militants from the Azovstal plant surrendered. According to him, they surrendered because their morale was at a critical level.

On the same day, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, announced the preparation of intermediate tribunals for Ukrainian militants who had left Azovstal. He also noted that the military tribunal should be held as transparently and publicly as possible with the participation of other countries, including Western ones.

The Russian Defense Ministry offered Ukrainian formations to surrender in mid-April. The plan was proposed because of the catastrophic situation at the plant. All nationalists who laid down their arms were guaranteed the preservation of their lives. At the same time, the department said that Kyiv was threatening to shoot the military blocked at the plant for trying to surrender to the Russian Armed Forces.

On February 24, Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect Donbass. The operation began against the backdrop of the situation in the Donbass that worsened in mid-February. The authorities of the DPR and the Luhansk People’s Republic reported increased shelling by Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of the civilian population in the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree.
