North Korean envoy accuses US of tension on Korean Peninsula

Washington’s aggressive intervention threatens stability on the Korean Peninsula. This statement was made by the Permanent Representative of the DPRK Kim Son at the session of the UN General Assembly on Monday, September 26.
Accidental blow: what threatens the world with a new nuclear power
Pyongyang no longer intends to negotiate denuclearization

“The security situation on the Korean Peninsula has fallen into a vicious circle of tension and confrontation due to the growing hostility of the United States and its satellites towards the DPRK,” the diplomat stressed.

According to him, the declared military exercises of the US and South Korea cause serious concern for Pyongyang and may start an armed conflict in the region.

Kim Son also noted that Washington’s position forced the North Korean government to adopt a new law on nuclear forces, which spells out the concept of an automatic strike. In addition, the permanent representative added, Pyongyang will not recognize the UN Security Council resolutions with sanctions against the People’s Republic until “the double standards, unfair approach and arbitrariness of the United States are eliminated.”

On September 8, North Korea passed a law declaring the country a responsible nuclear state. According to the document, the DPRK gets the right to deliver a preventive nuclear strike to the enemy in the event of a threat of attack.

Among the conditions under which the DPRK is ready to use nuclear weapons, an attack by other states on the country’s leadership and the command of the republic’s nuclear forces was named. Also, Pyongyang can use nuclear weapons if a nuclear attack is expected from another country or the use of other weapons of mass destruction against the DPRK, an attack on important strategic facilities of the country.

On August 1, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that North Korea was preparing to conduct its seventh nuclear test. He called the country’s nuclear program illegal. Washington intends to achieve the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Pyongyang announced its withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 1993. The state finally withdrew from it in January 2003. In September 2017, North Korea announced the successful explosion of a hydrogen charge, and later announced the completion of the development of nuclear weapons, declaring itself a nuclear power.
