The administration of the Japanese city of Nagasaki decided not to invite representatives of Russia and Belarus to the ceremony in memory of the victims of the atomic bombing. This was announced on Thursday, May 26, by the Kyodo agency.
The day before, the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Japan, Mikhail Galuzin, said that the Hiroshima authorities did not invite Russian representatives to the ceremony in memory of the victims of the atomic bombing.
He stressed that the organizers of the event did not invite the Russian side to the event because of a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. At the same time, the head of the Russian diplomatic mission recalled that it was Moscow’s initiative that the Russian-American treaty on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive arms was extended.
As Dmitry Gusev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Control Committee, emphasized in an interview with Izvestia, Japan wanted to insult Russia in this way.
On August 6, 1945, the atomic bomb “Kid” was dropped on Hiroshima by a US Air Force B-29 Enola Gay bomber. The power of the explosion was 13 kilotons of TNT, the radius of destruction was 1.6 km, the radius of the blast wave was 20 km. According to various estimates, from 70 thousand to 100 thousand people died on the first day after the explosion. By the end of 1945, the number of victims had risen to 140,000.
Three days later, another bomb, Fat Man, was dropped on Nagasaki. The power of the explosion was about 21 kilotons of TNT. About 74 thousand people died.
On September 2, 1945, Japan signed the Unconditional Surrender Act in World War II aboard the American battleship Missouri, which entered Tokyo Bay.
