State Duma deputy urged Russians to prepare for a new wave of COVID-19

In European countries, there is another surge in the incidence of COVID-19, a new wave of the spread of coronavirus infection can reach Russia. This opinion was shared by the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, Candidate of Medical Sciences Tatyana Solomatina.

“Today it is too early to relax. We all need to prepare for what could be the next wave of coronavirus in Russia. In Europe, there is already an increase in the incidence of COVID-19, which means that it is also possible in our country, ”she said in an interview with Sputnik radio on May 28.

According to the deputy, it is still possible to protect against the incidence of coronavirus through vaccination.

“Which strain caused the increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in Europe, I don’t know yet. But I think that the vaccine will save us from it too,” Solomatina said.

The development of the situation with coronavirus in Russia will depend on the number of people who have been ill and vaccinated recently, the expert believes.

She recalled that the virus mutates, so the vaccine that was given a year ago protects to some extent, but it is better to update it.

Nikolai Kryuchkov, CEO of Clinical Excellence Group, announced a new wave of coronavirus cases in Russia on May 26. According to him, it should be expected in the second half of September. The scientist believes that in the summer in Russia the situation with coronavirus will be unstable. There will be an increase in the incidence, then a decrease. At the same time, there are no reasons for the emergence of a new wave in the summer.

On May 22, TASS reported that, according to the agency’s calculations, the incidence of COVID-19 in the world has been growing for the second week in a row. In total, more than 5.7 million infections were registered between May 15 and May 21, which is 70% more than in the previous similar period. For the second week in a row, the United States has become the leader in incidence.

On the same day, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced an increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in almost 70 countries.

The vaccination campaign continues in Russia. Russians are vaccinated for free. Seven coronavirus drugs have been registered in the country: the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, Sputnik M, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N, CoviVac and Convasel.
