The Telegram messenger transmitted user data to the German Federal Criminal Agency, despite allegations that it did not cooperate with governments.
This was reported by Spiegel, citing sources.
It is noted that this can be seen as a cautious change in the application’s privacy policy. According to the publication, the German Interior Ministry held talks with Telegram in early February on cooperation with law enforcement and tracking banned content. The founder Pavlo Durov was also present at the meeting.
Later, Telegram and the German authorities created a closed channel of interaction, through which the messenger provides the necessary data to German law enforcement. Thus, channels with illegal content of extreme right-wing content were blocked, the newspaper writes.
Sources in the publication also claim that the messenger allegedly passed data on users suspected of pedophilia and terrorism to German law enforcement.
