Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk, on Thursday, May 26, criticized the speed of deliveries of German weapons to Kyiv. He did this by posting on his Twitter profile a photo of a snail with a cartridge glued to its shell.

“German weapons for Ukraine are already on their way,” Melnik captioned the image, adding that the photo was sent to him by a member of the Ukrainian government via WhatsApp (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).
Earlier on the same day, Pawel Soroka, a professor at the Jan Kokhanovsky University, pointed out that Germany was not interested in Ukraine’s victory in a special military operation to protect Donbass. In his opinion, Berlin does not want to provide serious assistance to Kyiv.
On May 25, Melnyk, in an interview with the Funke media group, said that the German government was delaying the process of approving arms supplies to Kyiv. He explained that the slowdown is happening, despite the fact that for Ukraine “every day matters.”
On May 11, Germany announced that it would supply Ukraine with modern tanks and howitzers and, in parallel, would begin training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). It was noted that deliveries from Germany would be completed before the end of training, so that when the howitzers arrived, the soldiers were ready for this.
At the same time, on May 1, it became known that residents of Germany signed a petition to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz urging them not to supply heavy weapons to Kyiv.
Western countries began to actively arm Ukraine against the backdrop of a Russian special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which began on February 24. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation include the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the backdrop of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
