The Federation Council called the condition for the West to refuse sanctions against Russia

The European Union and the United States will lift sanctions against Russia, subject to the most difficult situation in the socio-economic sphere, but they will still be stubborn to the last. This was announced on Wednesday, June 15, by Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, to Izvestiya.

“Their stubbornness is so great that even if they lose, they will think about what sanctions they will impose next. They can refuse this under the condition of the most difficult situation in the socio-economic sphere. Although they will be stubborn to the last. They cannot admit that they were defeated in this confrontation with the Russian Federation, and they are suffering it. <…> From Russia, these countries have done an absolute evil, ”he said.

According to the senator, this whole difficult situation in Ukraine, in Europe, as well as in relations with the United States, arose primarily because of the stubbornness of the United States and the European Union, as well as their unwillingness to develop common principles and comply with the rules of mutual security with Russia, because for NATO expansion to the east.

“They thought that they could threaten us with a finger and we would get scared. With the United States, everything is clear, they are hegemons and have always dictated terms. But now it is difficult to come to terms with the fact that a stage has come in the life of the world community when the Americans cannot dictate the rules of behavior to everyone, ”concluded Tsekov.

The EU has already adopted six packages of sanctions against the Russian Federation. The latest of these included the disconnection of three Russian and one Belarusian banks from SWIFT, as well as a partial oil embargo covering imports of Russian oil by sea. The ban on the import of crude oil from Russia to the European Union will come into effect six months after the introduction of the sixth package of sanctions. The EU also increased restrictions on the export of chemicals and high technology to Russia and expanded the list of Russian citizens subject to sanctions.

Currently, work is underway on the seventh package of EU sanctions. According to Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Pavel Yablonsky, it will deal with the gas embargo and the disconnection of all Russian banks from SWIFT. He also spoke about the need to limit Russia’s access to industrial technologies. In addition, the official admitted that Russian assets in Europe would be confiscated, not frozen.

Moscow, for its part, has repeatedly spoken about the self-destructive consequences of sanctions. It was noted that sanctions harm primarily the residents of the EU countries themselves, and Russia will “worthily” withstand the restrictions.

Western countries began to impose new sanctions in response to Russia’s conduct of a special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation include the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the backdrop of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
