“In the next few days, the first of four modern medium-range air defense systems IRIS-T SLM Infra Red Imaging System Tail will be ready to effectively protect the people of Ukraine,” she said on the website of the German Defense Ministry.

According to her, the first system will be delivered to Ukraine in the near future, followed by three more systems.

Lambrecht added that she strongly condemns the Russian shelling of Kyiv and a number of other cities in Ukraine.

“For this reason, it is necessary to continue to support Ukraine in its struggle, especially with modern air defense systems,” the message says.

The IRIS-T is a short-range air-to-air missile equipped with a cooled infrared homing head.

Earlier in the day, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said that Germany is doing everything to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

Explosions thundered in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on Monday morning.

At a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that, at the suggestion of the Ministry of Defense, on the morning of October 10, a massive strike with precision-guided weapons was carried out on Ukraine’s military infrastructure. The head of state explained that in this way Russia responds to the terrorist actions of the Kyiv regime.

Later, the Ministry of Defense reported that the goal of the strike had been achieved, and all designated objects had been hit.
