The Kremlin commented on the proposal to create a special economic zone in the Donbass

The Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LDNR) are independent states, so at the moment the issue of their development is very relevant. So the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on May 26 during a briefing on the words of the Secretary of the General Council of the party, the first vice-speaker of the Federation Council “United Russia” Andrey Turchak on the creation of a special economic zone in the region.

“The fact is that these are independent states — the DPR and the LPR, whose independence we recognize as the Russian Federation. And, of course, the issue of the development of these states is very, very relevant,” Peskov said.

Earlier on the same day, Andrey Turchak, Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party, came up with a similar initiative at the Entrepreneurship in the New Economic Reality forum. According to him, it also makes sense to ensure the return of a certain share of capital costs in the construction of production facilities.

On May 23, a dual-currency zone was introduced in the Kherson region. The head of the military-civilian administration (VGA) of the region, Vladimir Saldo, announced that the Russian ruble would be in circulation along with the hryvnia. According to him, the first branch of the Russian bank will open in Kherson in the near future.

In Melitopol, Zaporozhye region, local residents also began to pay in rubles along with the hryvnia from May 2.

On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation include the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the backdrop of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
