The most popular freelance exchange blocks Russian IT specialists

One of the world’s largest freelance exchanges, Upwork, has blocked users from Russia and Belarus.

Russian and Belarusian IT specialists have received letters from the company asking them to move to another country if they want to regain access to the platform, according to the Russian newspaper “Kommersant”.

Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many foreign IT companies not only withdrew from the Russian market and closed offices in the aggressor country, but also refused to cooperate with specialists from Russia. Against the background of sanctions, only in March, 50-70 thousand IT specialists left Russia for abroad. Another 70 to 100 thousand left Russia in April.
