The President of Germany called the war in Russia the reason for the increase in hunger in the world

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier believes that the current aggravation of the problem of hunger in the world is associated not only with climate change in certain regions of the planet, but also with interruptions in the supply of grain, food and fertilizer.

This is stated in his speech on the occasion of World Food Day, writes “European Truth” with reference to DW.

“The cruel, aggressive war of Russia against Ukraine is to blame for this. Famine reigns in too many regions of our world. For a long time, the number of hungry people in the world has been declining. Unfortunately, the trouble has returned with renewed vigor. now,” Steinmeier said in a speech that will be broadcast on German television tonight.

According to the President, 830 million people worldwide are now chronically malnourished – 150 million more than just three years ago.

“This is a sad record,” Steinmeier said, noting that the situation is particularly dire in the Horn of Africa region, where there is “the worst drought in the last 40 years,” and in Pakistan, where millions of people are suffering from the consequences of catastrophic floods.

Against this background, Steinmeier urged Germans to continue to donate to the hungry, despite concerns about rising prices in his own country.
