Thomas Tuchel’s ‘mistake’ in FA Cup final as Antonio Rudiger shares his regret – Chelsea News

Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel should have played Timo Werner in the FA Cup final against Liverpool, according to Alan Shearer, as Antonio Rudiger has shared his frustration at the loss

Tuchel “proud” of Chelsea player despite FA Cup defeat

Thomas Tuchel’s mistake in the FA Cup final has been highlighted by BBC match-of-the-day expert Alan Shearer.

The Blues lost to Liverpool on penalties at Wembley – for the second time this season. The Blues suffered even more penalties after their 11-10 Carabao Cup final defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s men in February as they suffered a 6-5 penalty loss on Saturday.

And Shearer believes Blues coach Tuchel should have played Timo Werner. Antonio Rudiger has admitted he “wanted to give a different ending” to his Chelsea career.

While Sam Kerr’s extra-time winner earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Manchester City in the Women’s FA Cup final.

Tuchel’s “mistake”

Alan Shearer says Timo Werner should have played against Liverpool during Chelsea’s FA Cup final defeat.

The Blues suffered a disappointing penalty shoot-out after going 0-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley – the same result as the Carabao Cup final between the same two sides in March. This time the shootout was a bit short, 6-5 to Liverpool, but Shearer believes the Blues might have won it before it went to penalties had Werner been on the pitch.

The BBC pundit said he thought running behind Liverpool’s defense would have been “a huge threat to him” and he was “surprised” that the German attacker hadn’t played.

Rüdiger’s regret

Antonio Rudiger admitted he was “frustrated” he couldn’t end his Chelsea career by winning the FA Cup.

The German centre-back is out of contract in the summer and is set to join Spanish giants Real Madrid when his contract in west London expires. Rudiger said he “wanted to have a different ending” with the Stamford Bridge team after the FA Cup final defeat, but that Chelsea will “always be special” to him and his family.

Women’s FA Cup win

Sam Kerr’s double helped Chelsea Women lift their second trophy in a week as they lifted the Women’s FA Cup trophy.

The Blues took the lead twice in the first 90 minutes but were pushed back both times. Kerr gave the Blues the lead when they nodded off at the far post before City leveled through Lauren Hemp just before the break. Chelsea regained the lead in the second half with a well-placed long-range shot from Erin Cuthbert, only Hayley Raso equalized in the 89th minute and sent the fight into overtime.

But it was Kerr who proved the match winner in overtime as she drove forward and saw her shot deflected massively by Alex Greenwood and found the back of the net.
