WhatsApp is changing how the core features of the app work – and that’s even better

WHATSAPP changes its status function to make it more useful.

A secret update to the app has been released – probably months before it went live.

WhatsApp regularly tests new features in the “beta test” version of the app.

Now WABetaInfo detectives have discovered a change in the “under development” app in a screenshot.

Status updates now have even better previews when sharing links to status updates.

This makes it even more so with Instagram.

“As you can see in this screenshot, rich link previews for future updates of WhatsApp beta for Android will also be available,” WABetaInfo explained.

“Rich link previews are always created when users wait a few seconds before sharing the link as a status update.

“And recipients can see them if the feature is enabled in their WhatsApp account.

“This is another improvement to the text status update after some users made small UI changes last week.”

Unfortunately, it is impossible to know exactly when this change will be live.

The status feature is similar to Instagram’s story.

Launched in February 2017, it has mimicked competing chat apps like Snapchat and Facebook.

But that final change could be days, weeks, or even months away – if it comes to the public at large.

If you want to try out the new WhatsApp features first, follow our guide to join the beta.
