Dubai is preparing to launch tourist taxis with electric vertical takeoff (eVTOL). It is planned that the new vehicles will start serving guests of the resort Atlantis, The Palm in 2026.
The agreement for the supply of 35 air taxis was signed by the electric aircraft company Eve Holding, owned by the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, and the charter flight operator Falcon Aviation Services, based in the UAE.
This project is a contribution of companies to the development of the urban mobility program, it is fully consistent with the strategy of Smart Dubai and will help make Dubai a world leader in sustainable urban air transport.
Eve has already received an order to produce 1,825 aircraft and expects to launch the first vehicle in 2026. It is worth noting that the industrial giants Airbus and Boeing are actively investing in the production of eVTOL.
In December 2021, the first tests of a prototype Volar two-seater flying car, created by the British company Bellwether Industries, took place in Dubai. The test flights were successful.
The prototype, controlled remotely, made several flights at a speed of about 40 km / h at an altitude of four meters. The flying car without wheels resembles futuristic cars from fantasy movies.
In the future, the company plans to launch a four-seater flying car. It will fly at a speed of 217 km / h, and the flight altitude will reach 900 meters. The flight time of a single battery charge is up to 90 minutes.
It is planned that the plane will go on sale by 2028, it can be used as a private car or taxi.
