The fiancee of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi has described her pain to Greg Norman by saying that “we all made mistakes” over the alleged Saudi Arabian-sanctioned killing of her partner.
The Australian made the comment while answering questions about the kingdom’s human rights record as he headlined the UK launch of the $255m Rebel LIV golf series, which begins next month in St Albans.
Asked if Norman thinks Mohammad Bin Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince, “admitted it,” the two-time Major winner replied, “From what I’ve heard and what you guys have reported. Look, we all made mistakes and you just want to learn from those mistakes and how to correct them in the future.
Hatice Cengiz, who should have married Khashoggi months after the dissident was killed in 2018, expressed her dismay and anger. “It’s so hurtful when Jamal’s brutal murder is dismissed as a ‘mistake’ and we should just move on,” she said through attorney Rodney Dixon QC.
“Would you say that if it were your lover? How can we move forward when those who ordered the murder still remain unpunished and continue to try to buy back their legitimacy?
“We should not fall for their wealth and lies and lose our morality and common humanity. We should all insist on truth and justice; Only then can we look forward with hope and dignity.”
