Finland and Sweden will take part in the NATO summit in Madrid. This was announced on Tuesday, May 24 by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
“Sweden and Finland will take part in the NATO Heads of State and Government meeting in Madrid in June,” Sanchez said at a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The next NATO summit will be held in Madrid from 28 to 30 June 2022. The meeting of the heads of state-participants will last three days instead of the traditional two.
On May 18, Sweden and Finland officially applied to join NATO.
The Russian Foreign Ministry reacted critically to the statement by the authorities of Finland and Sweden about plans to join the alliance. Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 16 during the anniversary summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization noted that the expansion of NATO is artificial.
