Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is the top scorer in the Champions League for the first time in his career.
His club won the Champions League earlier on Saturday with a 1-0 win over England’s Liverpool at the Stade de France outside Paris.
In the 2021/22 season, Benzema scored 15 goals in 12 matches and provided two assists.
“We are so happy and proud of the team. <…> It was a tough game, but it always happens in the Champions League, and even more so in the final. It means so much to me to win another Champions League here in my home country, ”UEFA website quoted Benzema as saying.
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski was the second top scorer in the tournament with 13 goals. Ajax Amsterdam’s Sebastien Aller finished third with 11 goals.
Benzema has been with Real Madrid since 2009. In its composition, the striker became a four-time champion of Spain, a two-time winner of the national cup and a four-time Spanish Super Cup. He also won the Club World Cup four times and the UEFA Super Cup three times.
