GreenGeeks Web Hosting has its roots in North America and has served over 300,000 customers, including over 35,000 websites. As an environmentally friendly hosting company, it has dedicated itself to keeping a positive energy footprint and replacing used energy with three times the energy credit.

My GreenGeeks story

Readers should not be unfamiliar with WHSR Tray Gardner for long. We conducted two interviews with the CEO in 2000 and published several reviews on his projects in the past.

At the time of writing, we are hosting a test site (see it here) on the GreenGeeks shared hosting platform and continuously monitoring its effectiveness using our in-house system called “HostScore”. You can check out GreenGeeks’ latest performance review here.

In this review – using my personal account, I’ll take you behind the scenes and show you what it’s like Host your website at GreenGeeks.

Now, let’s take a closer look and see if this hosting company, run by industry experts, can cut the ice as a great web host.

Professionals: Do we like GreenGeeks?

1. Eco-friendly: 300% green hosting (industry top)

Given the name of the company, let’s pay attention to Green Web Hosting for a moment.

Not the green hosting company but the two key differences are that they use carbon offset credit or renewable energy certificates. To fully understand each and every one, read our article on how green web hosting works.

GreenGeeks claims to offer “300% green web hosting powered by renewable energy”.

This means they buy three times the amount of renewable energy certificates and use the services they provide.

Certified Green Company

The company is a recognized EPA green power partner that works with the environmental foundations to purchase wind power credit.

In addition, there is information that they have a data center in Toronto. In recent years, several data centers have moved there to take advantage of an event called “Free Cooling.”

Free cooling in Toronto in cold weather helps reduce data center operational costs (and carbon footprint) by less than 50 percent. These facilities include additional winter circuits, allowing them to complement traditional ventilated cooling systems, especially in the winter, when outdoor air equipment is in demand.

2. Great Server Speed - Given a rating on all speed tests

Our performance tests run the normal gamut, GreenGeeks lights up… well, green across the board.

With our test server located in Europe, I decided to throw in additional tests from London, to see if there was any significant impact on hosting performance.

Not surprisingly, since GreenGeeks our server is in the Netherlands, performance tests show better speeds than EU-based tests. However, it has also shown excellent page loading speed across the board – from Asia to North America.

However, if you look straight past the ‘A’ and dig a little deeper, there is a little more time-to-first-byte (TTFB) from Singapore. As expected from GreenGeeks there is no data center in this location.

3. Choice of server locations

GreenGeeks Data Center Location The GreenGeeks Data Center is located in Chicago, Montreal and Amsterdam.

When selecting a hosting account, you can choose where your website will be hosted by choosing a GreenGeeks account.

The company has a data center in Chicago, USA (test IP: 216.104.36.130); Montreal, Canada (test IP: 184.107.41.68); And Amsterdam, Netherlands (Test IP: 198.20.98.2). You will enjoy the same benefits and hosting features as scaling, speed, security and eco-friendly technology in GreenGeeks regardless of which data center you choose.

4. Easy for Nawabi and non-technical people

2.49 per month for a sign-on purse of 10.95 (renewed for N XNUMX after the initial sign-up period), you will receive virtually unlimited amounts of everything, even supported by free domain registration and website migration support.

GreenGeeks Free Site Migration

For example, not only is web space unlimited, it is SSD storage that is fast. Then there are daily backups and free website transfers, which are not often seen at this price point. By rounding up with everything else you will be pressured to find a comparable offer.

WordPress hosting comes with a slight difference, but many of you will be happy to know that there is a free WordPress site migration support. This charges a significant amount for many web hosts.
greengeeks Migration Request To start your free site migration request GreenGeeks, log in to your GreenGeeks Account Manager> Support> Site Migration Request> select a service.
greengeeks migration Once you select your service, you need to submit some basic information and migration instructions. It provides the ideal GreenGeeks with your previous hosting primary control panel or account management login – which they need to complete your migration request.

HTTP / 2, HTTP / 3, Lightsspip, MariadB and PHP8

The Olymp Trade platform can be accessed in 3 ways. The first is the web version so that you can access it through the main website. Second, there are desktop applications for both Windows and Mac. This app has some extra features that you won’t find in the web version. Then there are Olymp Trade’s Android and Apple mobile apps. GreenGeeks offers HTTP / 2 and HTTP / 3 enabled by default and that in itself is a whole different story. HTTP / 2 and HTTP / 3 are new transfer protocols that can make your site load faster.

It also uses the notable GreenGeeks MariadB, which creates a strong front line when combined with SSD hard drives, optimized Lightspeed and PowerCash caching technology. This is probably a big reason for their speed performance and should not be taken lightly.

SitePad Site Builder

GreenGeeks offers Sitepad’s site creators as actually drag-and-drop. Although the sitepad is a bit more complicated to use than the average drag-and-drop website builder, I would still consider it a plus point. It still has zero required legislative use skills and is somewhat broader than average.

It comes with many pre-designed templates (over 700) and extensive widgets that you can use to modify them. Most importantly, SitePad is a third-party site editor integrated into GreenGeeks’ control panel. As such, the original developer has the motivation to keep it current with new technologies and tools.

Let SSL integration be encrypted

Integration in July 2019 for users hosted on GreenGeeks their proprietary built-in SSN shared and reseller platform. GreenGeeks users can now install Let’s Encrypt Wildcard SSL with one-click and renew their SSL automatically; CSR / private key / CRT file without touching.

Adding GreenGeeks Free SSL Adding a free SSL to your domain is very easy with the new GreenGeeks Dashboard. Simply select the domain you want to install Let’s Encrypt SSL and click “Confirm and Create”. Your site will be protected by Let’s Encrypt in a few seconds.

* Note: Existing GreenGeeks users – Switch to the new GreenGeeks AM Control Panel to access this SSL tool.

Extensive security features

To ensure account security, Greek Zeek uses two progressive methods, including account isolation and secure VFS. By keeping accounts silent, they are able to protect users from resource hogs in their own server environments. For example, if you have a massive usage spike in another account based on the same server, your account will not be affected.

Each account is protected by its own real time malware scanning. This is another follow-up to the Silo mentality, but it also means that your account will be protected from anything that could affect other accounts on the same server, such as malware.

5. Supportive customer support and knowledgebase

GreekGix runs the gamut in terms of customer technical support, a web host has almost everything a searcher would want. The company is recognized by the Better Business Bureau and is currently rated “A” by users. Not only do they have 24/7 email support, phone support and live chat, but they also have some interesting resources that you can take.

Quick is the first knowledge base for DIY assistance. To complement this there are several basic tutorials that cover everything from how to set up email to your account and even platform-specific support, including WordPress or Drupal.

Overall the resources available for help, GreenGeeks easily surpasses 80 percent of the web hosts I’ve encountered so far.

In fact, what I see is the lack of video-based tutorials that are becoming increasingly important due to our exposure to rich media formats.

6. Budget friendly – big discounts for new users

Like most budget hosting providers, GreenGeeks has big discounts for new users. If you are signing up for GreenGeeks for the first time, you will get up to 73% discount. Single domain shared hosting starts at just $ 2.95 / month – which I think is very reasonable in today’s market.

* Important: Note, however, that GreenGeeks prices will increase after the first term, see Con # 1 below for more details.

1. Prices increase during renewal

The cost of website hosting has always been a major concern for many WHSR readers. Cheap price tags are only available for GreenGeeks first time customers.

When you renew your hosting plan at the end of your first term, the regular rates for EcoSite Lite and EcoSite Pro plans will be $ 10.95 / mo and $ 15.95 / mo, respectively.

Although this practice is prevalent in today’s web hosting market; We think it’s important to warn our users in advance. Many customers do not realize that they are going to pay more and they get sticker shock when they see auto-charge in their credit card statement.

GreenGeeks WordPress and the sharing plan are basically the same thing – both were priced the same and come with the same features in three different packages – EcoSite Lite, EcoSite Pro and EcoSite Premium. Notes on server limitations

Although GreenGeeks claims to offer unlimited space and bandwidth, there is a painful line in TOS that finds the “extra resource user policy”:

A hosting account is considered to use “additional resources” when it uses 75,000% of the allocated resources of the subscribed hosting plan and / or the subscribable scalable resource add-on (and) and / or 100 files known as “computing resources”, and / or. Or “resources” and / or “use of resources”.

Normally, all web hosts have it in place, but GreenGeeks does not set a time limit. It is normal to complete that statement with “for more than 15 seconds” or something similar. This means that any time you hit the set limit, even for a second, they have the right to force you to upgrade.

It is noteworthy that most files / indodes are capped at 75,000 which is not the best to be honest (in contrast both InMotion hosting and TPB can up to 250,000 inodes on paper; A2 hosting allows up to 300,000).

The final thought: is GreenGeeks paying the price?

GreekGexics is a small bag of techniques for me.

On the one hand, as a technologist who still hopes for some more time on Earth (and life in it), I appreciate eco-friendliness. Excellent speed performance that GreenGeeks servers have shown in our experiments and easily encrypted free SSL management is nothing.

On the other hand, hefty renewal fees are a big turn-off.

Roy: Great eco-friendly hosting but expensive in the long run

Overall, I think GreenGeeks is a host that will work admirably with anything from a blog to even a small business. In fact, I think it’s an ideal place for beginners to host their site, the benefits, the cost and the resources.
