The bidding campaign for the right to host the Games of the Future, the first technologically advanced tournament in history, will end in June — the host city will be represented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko.
“The great interest of the Russian regions in the project indicates their readiness to become the founders of a new format of sports competitions, to involve young people in innovative sports that combine science and technology. The shortlist of candidates for the right to organize the technological tournament “Games of the Future” includes Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Kaluga and the federal territory “Sirius”. The subjects have all the components of a successful international event: high-quality sports infrastructure, accommodation facilities, trained volunteers. The presented cities have experience of holding large-scale events on their territory, including major sports competitions. The host city determined based on the results of the bidding campaign will be announced at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said.
“Athletes of the new generation are those who feel equally confident in both physical and digital space. Many disciplines change with the advent of new technologies, but one thing remains unchanged: in the development of sports, we keep up with the times and speak the same language with the modern generation. Therefore, the Games of the Future is exactly the format of the competition that will attract active young people to sports, while maintaining and promoting its true values - perseverance and the will to win, honesty in achieving sports results, teamwork. I am confident that the city chosen by the expert commission will adequately host the first games and set new standards in the organization of such sporting events,” said Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin.
“The inspection visits that we have carried out are designed to check the readiness of cities to host a unique innovative tournament and determine the capital of the first ever Games of the Future. We are grateful to the leadership of the regions: all applications have been worked out with high quality, we have seen venues for holding competitions in all disciplines of the sports program of the tournament,” said Igor Stolyarov, founder of the international sports project “Games of the Future”.
“Games of the Future” is a new international sports event, a technological tournament in innovative sports, in which athletes use technical devices, elements of digital reality and physical activity.
The bid campaign for the venue of the first Games of the Future in Russia was launched by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko in November 2021. More than 40 regions expressed their desire to host the tournament, 19 of them sent a package of application documentation to the organizers. Based on the results of the qualifying stage, a short list of candidates was formed.
The working group for the preparation of the “Games of the Future” conducted inspection visits, during which they examined sports facilities, urban infrastructure, and also assessed the readiness of cities to provide all the necessary services to guests and participants of a large-scale international tournament.
