What happened. Access to the Viber messenger has been blocked in the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.
Source. This is stated in the “resolution” of the State Defense Committee “DPR” and reported in a telegram channel “Government of the Luhansk People’s Republic.”
Details. The Luhansk People’s Republic stated that this was “a response to the repeated increase in the use of the service as part of the enemy’s military infrastructure in order to obtain data on geolocation and locate our critical military-civilian infrastructure.”
Illegal armed groups of the ORLO claim that with the help of Viber, the Ukrainian military is calculating the targets. But how exactly the messenger is used for military purposes, the militants did not explain.
Viber was also temporarily banned in the DNR.
The “resolution” states that the decision was made allegedly to avoid the dissemination of illegal information, inaccurate information of a civil and military nature, direct threats to recipients from unidentified senders, propaganda of violence, information and psychological pressure, etc.
Background. It will be recalled that at the end of January 2022, it was reported that the Ukrainian military may have its own messenger to replace WhatsApp or Telegram.
At the same time, Ukrainian servicemen were not recommended to use such messengers as WhatsApp, Telegram or Viber.
