The situation with food security, the supply of grain and fertilizers was the result of the mistakes of Western countries. This was announced on Friday, June 17, by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
“This (food crisis. – Ed.) is not Russia’s answer, these are the results of mistakes made by Western countries. What happened to food? Food prices are rising both because of inflation and because of the mistakes that have been made over the past few years, ”Peskov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Thus, he commented on the West’s accusations towards Russia that it is allegedly responsible for the upcoming global food crisis. In particular, on May 16, the G7 countries accused the Russian side of allegedly hindering Ukrainian agricultural exports, which allegedly caused food prices to rise.
Moscow has repeatedly denied such statements. Thus, on May 31, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia had been taking measures for the free export of Ukrainian grain for more than a month, and it was necessary for Kyiv to clear mine exits from ports.
On June 3, the accusations of the West were refuted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who named the miscalculations of the United States and its partners in financial and energy policy as the reasons for the onset of the food crisis. He also stressed that all accusations against Russia regarding the food situation are a bluff, and noted that Russia is doing everything to overcome the food crisis.
The cost of food products also continues to rise. In particular, on May 17, the price of wheat in the European market amounted to €435 per 1 ton, breaking all records. The reasons for the increase in the cost of grain, the authors of the publication call the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions, as well as abnormal heat in India, the second largest producer of wheat.
