Review Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick – designer headphones with good sound

Huawei presents many interesting products, but some of them are truly unique. Huawei FreeBuds consistently offers good sound and quality, but FreeBuds Lipstick has a design that distinguishes it not only from Huawei, but also among all models on the market – it has a design that reproduces the look of lipstick.

Cosmetics manufacturers offer hundreds of different lipstick colors, but in the case of Huawei Lipstick, only one is available – something between Rojo and Cornell (which may be relevant to the target audience). In terms of hardware platform, the headphones themselves are completely identical to FreeBuds 4, which are well known to fans of top TWS headphones. We have the opportunity to test the Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick, and we are ready to share our impressions.

Features of Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick:

Speaker size: 14.3 mm
Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.2 with MultiPoint support
Codecs: AAC, SBC
Battery capacity: 30 mAh (each earphone), 410 mAh (charging case)
Weight: 4.1 g (each earphone), 84.5 g (charging case)
Charging connector: USB-C
Protection: IPX4
Chips: active noise absorption

Design and feel when used

Of course, the design of Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick can not be called neutral – the headphones have a specific target audience – girls and women who like to listen to music with good sound quality. It is worth noting that the case has a pleasant weight, because it is made of metal, but the headphones, on the contrary, are very light.

On the side of the gold face is the company logo, at the bottom – a single button and a USB-C connector for charging. In terms of sensations, the model is identical to Huawei FreeBuds 4: because each headphone weighs only 4.1 grams, which is one of the lowest performance among competitors, in the ears they are not felt at all. Fixation is good, from wearing the ears do not get tired at all, even with prolonged listening.

It should be noted that Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick has a premium not only design and positioning, but also sound. Last but not least, thanks to the 14.3 mm dynamic drivers, the headphones sound loud, clean and balanced. In general, they are very similar to Huawei FreeBuds 4.

It is worth noting that the sound is really good, but Huawei FreeBuds 4 with very similar, if not identical sound, are available at a significantly lower price. You should choose Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick in the case when not only sound is important for you, but also unusual design, because it is, first of all, a design product.

Noise absorption and sound during conversation

It should be noted that Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick are plug-in, not in-ear headphones, so they will in any case have worse active noise absorption than those with ear cushions. However, FreeBuds Lipstick has a very good active noise absorption system that works even better than FreeBuds 4.

Of course, noise absorption also applies to conversations using FreeBuds Lipstick as a headset. No matter what environment you’re in, you can hear well thanks to noise absorption when talking, which FreeBuds Lipstick does quite well.

Management

As with all Huawei headphones, the FreeBuds Lipstick can only be used with a Bluetooth connection to any device, but the Huawei AI Life app will unlock all the functionality. It allows you to customize tapping on single, double taps, delayed taps, volume control and active noise absorption.

By default, the double tap is used to pause / resume playback, as well as to receive or end a call. Delayed tap allows you to turn active noise cancellation on and off, as well as reject the call. Adjust the volume by swiping the headphones: up and down to increase and decrease, respectively. As with most premium solutions, FreeBuds Lipstick has the option to remove the earphone to stop playback and return it to the ear to resume playback.

Connections and widgets

Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick can use two codecs: SBC and AAC (the second is better, if possible it is desirable to use it). It should be noted that in both cases there are no delays – the headphones perform well in use with both SBC and AAC. It should be noted that the first time you connect headphones through the AI Life application, he offers to update the firmware to improve stability.

Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick is suitable not only for everyday use, but also for sports. It should be noted that the model not only has a good fit in the ears, but also has IPX4 protection against moisture. In general, the headphones perform well during training (a little can only disappoint the autonomy when using headphones with active noise absorption during training).

Autonomy

Huawei officially announces up to 4 hours of operation on a single charge without active noise absorption and up to 2.5 hours with it. This is not the highest figure on the market, but it can not be called bad. In addition, it should be understood that this is a fee for the lightness of the headphones themselves.

Charging the Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick takes 30 minutes, and the case – a little more than an hour. Unfortunately, Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick does not support wireless charging, but this may be justified by the design, which does not particularly provide for this.

However, not the highest autonomy of the headphones themselves is offset by the high autonomy of the case. Yes, it allows you to charge the headphones up to six times, which gives a total of about 15 hours of autonomy with active noise absorption or up to 24 hours of autonomy without active noise absorption.

Conclusions

Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick is a stylish accessory “not for everyone”. Their main advantage overpaying for Huawei FreeBuds 4 is design. If you have the desire and opportunity to buy yourself or as a gift a stylish accessory that has practical value, because it is a premium wireless headphones, FreeBuds Lipstick will be a good option.
