Roku announced Thursday that its ultra-streaming box will include its Voice Remote Pro, which upgrades the company’s standard remote with the addition of more buttons, constant listening, and a rechargeable battery. Despite the fact that Roku includes a remote that costs $30 to purchase alone, the Ultra sticks with its original price of $99.99.
In its press release, the company says bundling will begin “mid-May,” and its website already states that the Ultra will come with the Pro remote. When my colleague Chris Welch reviewed the remote last year, he liked that he had the ability to issue voice commands to his Roku without having to press a button. And while he admired the fact that AAs were no longer needed, it was a bit of a shame that the remote was charged via micro-USB.
- “There is no Pro surcharge”
This isn’t the first time Roku has come bundled with one of its streaming boxes in the remote. The $70 Streaming Stick 4K Plus also includes it. However, this model costs $20 more than the regular Streaming Stick 4K. It’s nice to see Roku just throwing it into the Ultra with no price increase. That makes the streaming box with HDR and Ethernet connection a pretty decent deal – even more so when it inevitably goes on sale.
