Rospotrebnadzor recommended wearing medical masks to residents of regions of Russia where there is an increase in cases of coronavirus. This was stated on August 16 in a message on the agency’s website.

In regions where the weekly rate of new cases exceeds 50 per 100 thousand citizens, it is advisable to wear masks in public places.
A letter with recommendations was sent to the territorial bodies and organizations of Rospotrebnadzor. The head of the department, Anna Popova, instructed to work out recommendations with the executive authorities of the subjects.
“Different growth rates are recorded in the context of the regions of the country, in some cases (the Arkhangelsk region) a decrease in the incidence is observed. At the same time, 48.6% of detected cases occur in three regions – Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Moscow Region, ”the Rospotrebnadzor noted.
On August 15, Sergey Netesov, head of the laboratory of bionanotechnology, microbiology and virology at Novosibirsk State University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Izvestia that the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia should decline in the next week or two. Growth is still underway, he stressed.
Netesov also shared his assumptions about what the next strains of coronavirus will be and explained why the new vaccine should be targeted against Omicron.
