Russian container market down 26% in April, transit down 40%

At the end of April 2022, the container market of the Russian Federation decreased by 26.1% (yoy), to 414 thousand TEU, the FESCO transport group told reporters.

“Import traffic decreased by 24%, while the volume of shipments through land border crossings increased by 43%. Export shipments decreased by 19% compared to April last year, but compared to March 2022, exports increased by 12%. Transit shipments decreased by 40% “The main decline occurred on the Asia-Europe route. Domestic traffic remained at the level of last year,” FESCO said.

According to FESCO, in January-April 2022, the Russian container market decreased by 3.9% compared to the same period in 2021, to 1.975 million TEU.

Import decreased by 4% to 746 thousand TEU, transit – by 10% to 257 thousand TEU, export – by 10% to 601 thousand TEU. Domestic transportation increased by 13% to 371,000 TEU.
