Any seafood is considered to be good for your overall health and well-being, but when it comes to brain health, doctors recommend it first.
Seafood is rich in essential nutrients, including protein, fats, minerals and B vitamins. According to nutritionist Sidney Green, wild salmon is the best for the brain. She spoke about this in an article for Eat This, Not That!
According to the journal Nutrients, the brain is mostly made up of fats, including omega-3s. About 90% of the fat that makes up the structure of the brain is in the form of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Salmon is a rich source of DHA, omega-3 and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). “In fact, one serving of wild salmon for three ounces (85 grams) contains 1.22 grams of DHA and 0.35 grams of EPA,” Green explained.

More and more research is being done to help understand how diet can slow or prevent cognitive decline.
For example, according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, higher consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids is associated with a lower risk of mild cognitive impairment.
In addition, the consumption of wild salmon helps to produce a strong protein – brain neurotrophic factor. It supports the growth and survival of brain cells and is one of the proteins responsible for their creation.
